Welcome to The Christie Ossington Neighbourhood Centre
Founded in 1994, The Christie Ossington Neighbourhood Centre is a multi-service organization located in Toronto’s West end providing community based programming for everyone. We welcome all, including all demographics, social classes, status, gender and gender identification, ethnic background, religion, and age. As well we provide exceptional programming for high-needs children, youth-at-risk, homeless men and women, vulnerable community members, newcomers, or anyone who might require extra support. The Centre was incorporated in 1997 as a non-profit organization, gained charitable status in 2002 and became a United Way member agency in 2001. The Centre is governed by an elected Board of Directors largely consisting of local residents who reflect the diversity of the catchment area. It works from a community-capacity building framework to actively engage community members in program development, delivery, and evaluation.
In the News:
We have a new building!!!
The Christie Ossington Neighbourhood Centre is pleased to announce that we are expanding!
LOFT Youth Centre for Social Enterprise and Innovation Social Enterprise and Innovation – Innovating a brighter future During the past 16 years of service, our neighbourhood centre has had the honour of helping channel some the amazing energy from youth through our LOFT program. From young graffiti artists, budding sound engineers, passionate entrepreneurs, and dedicated community activists, thousands of youth have sought out opportunities for engagement through our programs. As part of this process we have seen first hand the many benefits gained from the subtle gestures of kindness, care, support, love, guidance, and encouragement our staff team and stakeholders has had on these youth. Since those early days, is has been our long term vision to build and provide a safe and nurturing space in our community where youth are able to nurture their ideas, access resources, find validation in their contributions, exercise their voice, and work together to define and manifest their ideal vision for the future.
Recently in partnership with the Ontario governement we have under taken this new initiative:
Youth Learn How To Market Their Creativity
June 24, 2009 10:00 AM
McGuinty Government Providing Opportunities For Youth To Develop Business Skills Ontario is investing in the talent and entrepreneurial potential of low-income, at-risk youth in west downtown Toronto. The province is providing $25,000 to the Christie Ossington Neighbourhood Centre for their project, the LOFT (Life, Opportunities, Food and Technology). The funding will provide youth in the area with entrepreneurship training, business tools, and mentorship opportunities. This will help them identify market opportunities and sales strategies for products and services developed through the LOFT program, such as music, CDs, mural arts, food products and studio rental. Launched in 2006, the Young Entrepreur Program (YEP) provides funding to non-profit organizations for projects that promote the entrepreneurial spirit in youth aged 12-29. Nineteen organizations have been selected in this third round of grants, totalling just over $1 million in support.
