CONC Change Happens

The Future Looks Bright!

Recently CONC has been undergoing a transformation. We have some new and amazing people on board, some spectacular program ideas in action, and even more truly heart warming moments happening on a daily basis. With all this deep and soulful growth and development going on, what better way to honour it than with an aesthetic transformation!

Thanks to the kindness and help from Matheson at Matheson's Quality Painting through the United Way, we have given our office spaces an equally vibrant jolt of inspiration. Though the weather worn walls did attest to all the hard work, and grassroots vibe in this building that makes everything come together, we all agree that it is time for some positive change. The gorgeous orange in the Nook Children's Program Office, and the mellow green in the Drop-In Office are the perfect palettes to compliment our new phase which is equally bright and happy.

Thank you Matheson you did a terrific job!

Thank You Lou Odette!

Lou Odette is a man who cares. His support to United Way over many years continues to impact the lives of so many in our community. In the last several years Lou has focused his philanthropic efforts on helping the most vulnerable in our community - the homeless. His extraordinary support through the United Way has resulted in Dixon Hall, St. Stephen's and now Christie Ossington Neighbourhood Centre being able to complete our housing projects.

His generosity ensured that Christie Ossington Neighbourhood Centre was able to complete the construction of twenty Units of transitional housing and a common dining room at our North Site, 973 Lansdowne. Without his caring, compassion and understanding of the importance of supportive housing, we would not have been able to complete this important project.

Over the past 6 months, 6 at-risk youth participated in the inaugural Service Canada-funded YSI program placing each of the youth in various programs at CONC (Drop-In, LOFT and NOOK).

The youth spent 30 hours a week over 6 months working in these programs, and attended employment skills training workshops for one day each week over that time period. The program came to a close with a lunch party for all those involved, including Board Member Kevin and ED Lynn Daly.

We would like to share our appreciation to Roy McCandlish, the Program Coordinator, for his tireless efforts in coordinating a successful program, particularly in the eyes of the participants. Also, to all the participants, who were rewarded with a certificate and a bonus for their efforts.
