CONC Community Development
The Christie Ossington Neighbourhood Centre has been committed since its inception to the strengthening of connections between all community stakeholders for the increased well-being of everyone who lives here, works here, plays here and stays here. We have also been committed to increasing, improving and bettering the use of community spaces in the Christie Ossington neighbourhood for increased enjoyment, safety and productivity.
Our commitment to community involvement in parks is demonstrated by;
- “The Nook” Literacy/Arts and Recreation Summer Drop-In Program (Christie Pits Park)
- Environmental Education-based Literacy, Arts and Recreation Programs, including gardening, clean-up events, nature observations, community hikes/hunts and performance events We created The “T.A.M.” (Theatre Arts Music) Community Garden with Toronto Parks and Trees funding in 2005 and installed “The LITTERacy Project” in 2006.
- C.O.N.C. Annual Summer Street Festival, Three on Three Basketball Tournament (Christie Pits Park)
- Community Clean-Up Day (Irene Parkette)
- Community Gardening Initiatives: (please visit http://www.conc.ca for photos): Bickford Park - 4 beds and 3 naturalized areas, St. Raymond Catholic School - 4 beds, drought resistant perennials, shrubs/trees, Hawthorne II Bilingual Alternative School - outdoor classroom, 5 garden beds, Essex School - 2 butterfly gardens and playground garden, Dufferin Grove Park- wild flower and native species gardens, Garnet Avenue - 7 garden beds with flagstone/cobblestone path, drought resistant plants
Christie Ossington Neighbourhood Centre works with the following networks as a means of instigating and supporting positive change for the Christie Ossington community, similar communities and the non-profit/social service sector:
