LOFT ARTERY - Artists Remain True 2 Empower ouR Youth

ARTERYlogo3color

ARTERY was developed by the LOFT Youth Program in response to the lack of visual arts programming for young artists in the Christie Ossington community. Many of these talented youth have to forego careers in fine arts because they do not receive the opportunities to expand their horizons and learn about ways to make a living off fine arts. In addition, the increased amount of tags, bombs and street vandalism in the Catchment Area (Ward 19 - Toronto) is a problem that has to be addressed from the root cause - young artists with no legal outlets for their cultural practice - graffiti art.

ARTERY seeks to empower these youth by providing them with opportunities to showcase their talent, work as a team to produce murals in the community, and document their progress to share their work with other youth.

ARTERY is funded by the Ontario Arts Council and the Christie Ossington Neighborhood Centre. The idea was developed by Roxanne Musterer and Javid Alibhai, both visual artists with experience leading Graffiti Transformation programs, and Mr. Robert Bailey, Program Manager at the LOFT Youth Program.
