The Nook The Pedal Pushers

Pedal Pushers - Bicycle Borrowing Program for Families

Created in 2007 by Nook youth staff, The Pedal Pushers Community Bike Borrowing Program is like a library for bikes. Local children from low-income families can borrow size-appropriate, safe bikes for up to 4 days at a time, complete with a lock.

Generally, children must wear their own helmet, although we do have a small collection on hand. Pedal Pushers riders are required to leave a $40 security deposit with The Nook in order to take bikes home. The Pedal Pushers Clubhouse is located at the Northwest corner of Christie Pits Park below Alex Duff pool. As well as lending out bikes, the Nook facilitates bike refurbishment/repair, biking instruction, friendly competitions including roller-basketball tournaments, special guest demonstrations and “rolling” field trips!

The Pedal Pushers Program improves the cardiovascular health of participating children, increases children’s ability to safely explore neighbourhood spaces and symbolizes a commitment to environmentally-friendly travel. The Pedal Pushers operates during NookSummer as well as during The Nook After School Program as weather permits. Contact Us, or contact Alia Abaya through the Nook Children's Program for more information.
