The Nook Children’s Program
2011 Film Production
CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS!!
Each spring The Nook Children’s Program creates a Community Theatre project and this year we will be producing our first ever NOOK FEATURE FILM! The Nook Film will have a gala screening at the Bloor Cinema in early June 2011. Our past productions have included the musical “O Brother Where Art Thou: A Remix” which was performed at the Tranzac last year and a multimedia arts production at the Gladstone Hotel called “A Collection of Connections” in 2009.
The Nook Children's Program is a free After School, Suspension Help and Summer Camp program for kids ages 6-12 years who live in the Christie Ossington community. We provide daily arts, sports and literacy programming, along with homework help and a daily snack. We also host frequent guest workshops and special events. Our suspension help program offers a specialized, supportive learning environment for kids who have been suspended. As well, we offer support and advocacy for caregivers in the community. In the summer, we run a free Summer Camp out of Christie Pits park.
We are seeking volunteers who are interested in working collaboratively with kids, youth and adults to create a community-based film production during the month of May. People with experience in social justice, community arts, theatre, film, and working with children would be greatly appreciated, but what we look for most in volunteers is a passion to get involved.
Volunteers can assist in a multitude of ways, including: concept, scriptwriting, filming, editing, costumes, sets/props, marketing and publicity, fundraising, organizing the Gala Screening, documentation, and more.
If you are interested in becoming volunteer for the Nook Film Production 2011, please contact Julie Read, The Nook Program Coordinator at or call 416-534-8941 x36.
