Sick of winter yet? Not the Nook!
The Nook has been taking advance of our cold weather towards a good cause when it comes to their winter hockey program in partnership with sponsors MLSE and Just Energy. MLSE and Just Energy have helped brought this free hockey program to children of the Nook and surrounding Christie Pitts community, and children have been coming out in droves to get out on the ice!
Please read more about some of our most recent hockey heroes:
Hockey Dad & son
One of our youth Volunteer’s fathers joins him each week and has become the “ Hockey Dad”. Cliff (aka “Hockey Dad”), has been out every hockey session we have had at the Nook assisting children with skates, giving them high fives and praising improvements he has seen over the season. The children look to him for advice and a friendly face on the sidelines when they accomplished a goal. Cliff and his son were greeted with many smiles this week and the kids were excited to show how much they have improved from the year before.
Youth Leader Story
One child Kai who is 6 years old tried on skates yesterday for the first time ever, did really well on the ice. One of our youth volunteers, Jason, Grade 10 student, spend an hour with Kai teaching him how to position his legs to keep his balance as well as how to get up from falling. Kai continued to try and did not complain once. At the end of the session, he twirled around keeping his balance and was excited to show off his “ New Trick”
